Activities and Adventures
Boating and Sailing
Power boating, including sailing in the bay or water skiing/ knee boarding up the two rivers - the New River, (80+ miles of river) from its mouth, passing through Orange Walk Town to Hill Bank Lagoon and the Lamanai Archaeological site or 75+ miles up the Rio Hondo River (the Belize Mexican border) from the mouth near Chetumal to Blue Creek Village - is a great way to enjoy the abundant wildlife.
Fishing
Sport fishing enthusiasts have much to choose from in the district. In the waters of Chetumal Bay, which separate Belize's northern mainland from the country's 185-mile long barrier reef, you can catch tarpon, snook, bonefish, permit, snapper, and jack.
Golfing
Golf and good weather go hand in hand, and Consejo Shores has the climate that is conducive to a perfect day out on the course. Tee off in the company of magnificent birds that soar as high as the drives are long. In February, the annual “Consejo Shores Golf Tournament” always proves to be great fun for all. Click here for 9-hole Golf Course Map.
Disc Golf
With the incredible rise in popularity of ball golf, it is no surprise that disc golf is also enjoying a similar rise in popularity. Disc golf offers many of the same pleasures: fresh air in a beautiful landscape, the camaraderie of friends, and the challenge and excitement of combining personal skill and speed to project an object toward a target. In addition, best of all, it‟s a fun way to get together with friends & family, and have a great time.
Birding
There are more than 500 species of birds that live in Belize year round or visit Belize as part of their migration. Belize is excellent for birding because of its rich diversity of ecosystems containing forests, rivers, savanna and jungle. Trips along the New River are great for seeing waterfowl, such as herons, kingfishers and jabiru storks. You may want to explore the natural waterways by canoe or kayak. It is a great way to enjoy bird watching and the flora and fauna.
Kayaking
This is a unique form of sightseeing because you are able to witness the wonders of nature from a unique point of view. You can spot the ever-changing flora: plants, trees, blossoms and vines that thrive in the area. The natural marvels of life you will experience are momentous. On certain occasions, it is so quiet that you can hear a fish jump for a hovering mosquito. Keep your eyes and ears open throughout your journey, as you will not want to miss a thing. Many will agree this is a great way to see the area.
Windsurfing and Other Water Sports
The waters around Consejo Shores are great for windsurfing. Each month can offer many days with winds that are more than adequate to make for great windsurfing. The windy season is generally October through March, whereas the calmer months are generally July through Sept. Corozal Bay is a protected area, making it a great place to enjoy the latest water sports such as parasailing, windsurfing, kite boarding, jet skiing, waterskiing, knee boarding, aqua biking and swimming. The water temperatures average a comfortable 75-84 degrees F and have trade winds blowing at 6 knots-20 knots throughout the year. Most of the sea frontage in Consejo Shores has a sandy bottom with a few stony areas. The water is shallow and shelves out gradually, an ideal place for small children. The seafront park at Pelican Park has steps and a handrail down into the water. There is a shower for after your swim, benches and a palapa.
Reading
If your idea of fun is to relax in your hammock with a good book, we have just what you are looking for. Consejo Shores has its own library equipped with a sizable selection of books (approx. 3,500), ranging from best-sellers to local favorites. Please feel free to stop by and browse.
Photography
“Where beauty is found in nature, Belize is a nature lover's paradise. There are miles and miles of barrier reefs with spectacular marine life, rain forests with numerous orchids, birds, reptiles and mammals, including the jaguar; many caves to explore by hiking or by water (floating in an inner tube is fun), Mayan ruins to climb, rivers and waterfalls. There are so many different kinds of insects including many colorful butterflies and moths, that I dub Belize „Bug Kingdom‟.”

Biking and Walking
Bicycling and walking are healthy, inexpensive, environmentally friendly ways of getting around, and provide a great opportunity to meet your neighbors. The tree-lined streets and parks of Consejo Shores are peaceful, attractive and relatively traffic free. We invite you to come and enjoy the beautiful, tropical sights and sounds of the community.
Gardening
Gardening in the tropics can be a rich and rewarding activity. The variety of flora is almost limitless. The community garden club, “Roots and Shoots”, meets once a month, usually at the community center. It is a wonderful way to meet with friends & neighbors, share stories of our gardening successes (and failures), and learn new skills.

Belize has the highest concentration of Mayan Ruins in the World. There are estimates of thousands of Maya Ruin Sites within the country. Consejo Shores is a perfect jumping-off point for the 20-minute boat ride to the temples of Cerros - a cluster of long abandoned pyramids, plazas and ball courts that once served Maya seafarers. Some of the buildings display painted masks, up to 13 feet high, depicting humans, animals, and celestial objects. Jaguars regularly pass through Cerros on their nighttime patrols and during the day, visitors may see tapirs, pacas and other exotic wildlife. Watch for the dolphins and manatees that frequent the coves and wetlands of the bay.

Belize has a fascinating history with a diverse culture and
much to offer for residential, year-round, winter or vacation property.
With Mayan ruins and the abundant wildlife to the clear Caribbean waters, Belize is one of the best places to invest in affordable tropical land.
Belize is one of the easiest places to retire. It's English speaking,
has a low cost of living, and no taxes. And it's in the Caribbean. In fact,
it's probably the last place where you can still get affordable Caribbean real estate.
